I Do Not Choose to Be a Common Man (Woman)

I Do Not Choose to Be a Common Man

It is my right to be uncommon—if I can.

I seek opportunity—not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations and to face the world boldly and say, “This I have done.”

My close friends know that I am on a mission to become debt free. That means, no credit cards, no car payment, no mortgage payments, no student loan payments... blah, blah, blah! My plan is to become debt free in 24 months (not including my mortgage). I have made the decision to regain control of my finances, and take the hard earned money back from "the banks" who have so quietly taken a percent here and a percent there, for far too long! I have made a promise to myself, to not borrow another cent, as long as I can help it. Hopefully never again. To assist me with this mission, I have the support of a lovely christian man named DAVE RAMSEY. Some of you may have heard of him. He has his own radio talk show, television show & has written many books. (He is on the radio every day from 3-5pm). I have been listening to him religiously (and so have my husband and kids). He also offers a financial class called "Financial Peace University", which is most often offered at churches. The class is 13 weeks long, which was going to be a bit of a hassle for us to make it to there every week, so we decided to purchase the home study kit. We will be able to study it home, without missing a class. If you are like me, and are tired of living payday to payday and just not ever feeling like you are going to get ahead, you MUST go to his website! Or go to the library and get his books Total Money Makeover or Financial Peace Revisited. Both of these will help you to become debt free, sooner than you may think! I recommend attending a class at your local church as well. And, listening to one of his radio shows... He is a millionaire who lost everything, went bankrupt & broke, and built his fortune back up again, wisely. He shares how he did it.

Happy (early) Birthday Abigail ~ and vacation, here I come!

Im three weeks early (December 20th is her birthday) taking Abgails birthday picture this year. I needed to get it done so I could make her invitation. She was just a doll posing for me. Her outfit was a sale item from Carters. Thats my new favorite store. I dont shop at gymboree anymore. I think there quality has declined over the last three years. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I am now on vacation from my photography until the first of the year. It was a very busy fall and Im blessed to be able to call this my job. Thanks to everyone who I have had the pleasure of photographing this year. Anyone who is wanting a session may still email me, to set up a date for next year. January is pretty open and February has a couple of sessions left.

Better late than never...

This year the kids picked out their own costumes... I was a little apprehensive, since I am a control freak, but it worked out well. Alex got her skirt at a garage sale this summer for 50 cents... the scarves and shirt at the thrift store. While we were at the thrift store looking for accessories for alex, abigail pointed out a strawberry costume... and went crazy. She LOVES strawberries! I was tickled that it was adorable and it was only $3.99. Gavin chose a costume from Family Dollar for $7.00. So, in all we spent less than $15.00 for three costumes. When Alex was younger, I used to go to the disney store and spend $75.00 for a costume & accessories and not think twice about it. What was I thinking? I think that is just pure silliness. As I am typing this, I am talking to my sister on the phone and she just said that she got 2 kids costumes at walmart last night for 70 cents each. I will be visiting walmart today or tomorrow. I am on a mission to save as much money as I can, and getting the best value. I would rather put the extra money in savings, instead of in a costume that my children are going to wear for 2 hours. The cookies above were baked by my neighbor, who is a fabulous baker! YUMMY!

Barlow Girls & Superchick Concert

The girls had to get a picture in front of the "tour" bus...

Below: Hannah, Alex, Allison, Haley

They got to meet Superchick and Barlow Girls after the concert.. to sign autographs. Alex was so tickled!

Superchick came on before Barlow Girls... Alex REALLY liked superchick.

After the show, the girls had to show off their new concert shirts and posters.

The first two songs on my blog are Superchick and Barlow Girl. They are both christian girl bands. A band named Vota also played before the girl bands came out. They were great too!
